So many exciting things are happening! Between working a full time job, establishing my shop, and participating in local (and sometimes non local) art things I feel like I never have a moment to spare…
I live in a medium sized town in Iowa called Dubuque that sort-of has an art scene….there have been arts events/openings and festivals for a while, but as far as grungier, more experimental events …there really hasn’t been much of a tradition. But there is definitely a group of rad creative people and an audience hungering for that type of thing and it seems to be taking a much more definite shape as of late. Lots of music always happening, and we have a new gallery that recently opened right on top of a super chill coffee shop, Monks. The last show was comics/cartoon oriented and me and Victor participated
This is the front and back side of the same piece! Yes, a double sided shirt AND paper mache mask
Victor also made a sculpture of local movie star and friend Robert Z’Dar a.k.a Maniac Cop!! Crazily, he lives like two blocks away from us. Even crazier is that the first time me and Victor ever met we watched a Robert Z’Dar movie (Pocket Ninjas! watch it! It’s super low budget and soo entertaining ) and now we know him in real life….life is weird.
This is a wall featuring some of of my super new pieces

There was live music at the same time as the art opening. The crowd favorite was of course The Glimmer Blinkken. (featuring: Bob Bucko Jr. aka BBJR, Jon Eagle, and Ben and Beth Eagle). Glimmerblinkken is super dancy quirky kraut-rock influenced wonderfulness and they are pretty damn amazing. Go to their bandcamp page now. More Dubuque related things on ruixzine.com .
This photo was from this weekend at a different art opening…live drone/noise music (Venereal Crush) along with psychedelic video manipulations (Jay Scheidt) and live painting (Victor)…I think the last time I went to an event like this I was in Bushwick so the fact that this is happening in Dubuque is kind of nutso
In other non-Dubuque news, my longtime friend Lucy is opening up a VERY exciting new online shop soon called Lubie. I am particularly excited not only because she will be featuring my wares for sale but because Lucy has the most incredible taste and is an amazing curator and magic-maker. Lubie is going to magical.
These may not be the final versions (still want to mask that pesky gray background) but I’ve been decorating some of Lucy’s shots of my jewelry on model Brit Evans for Lubie
I feel like I went crazy mentioning/link everything in this post so sorry if that was too much/sorry I left anyone out!
