Outsider art, Insider Art, whatever

I have been really digging David “Big Dutch” Nally’s artwork over the past few days since I discovered him while browsing firstdibs.com. He is represented by the  Outsider Folk Art Gallery , which I recommend checking out because there is a lot of great work there.  Although as an aside I do feel like I need to mention that I  personally have reservations about the term “outsider” because it’s essentially subjective. I also believe it is becoming more and more irrelevant for many reasons (i.e the existence of the internet, the fact that established institutions are losing influence as people learn they don’t need them to make or see good art, “educated” people still make art that looks similar to this so what does it matter anyway blah blah) and although I think this is something really interesting I don’t want this post to get derailed because the point was just to share art that I love, so  without further distraction please feast your pupil holes upon the artistic delights I have digitally posted for you my dear precious readers

I go apeshit for outsider art. I was so bummed at SVA when the dean of my dept told me I couldn’t be an outsider artist due to my excessive formal training :( bum bum. I’ve always been drawn to these obsessive individuals, who work, more than god himself, in mysterious ways with even more mysterious motivations. I would forgo all my formal training to work in obscurity and produce compulsively. They are prophets as far as I can tell.
